Cataract follow-up service (REI, Derriford, Plymouth)

In some parts of Devon following routine uncomplicated cataract surgery you will be discharged following surgery to go on to have your follow up at your optical practice, thus enabling care closer to home for you.

Glaucoma monitoring service, Plymouth

The scheme is a community based on-going care service provided by accredited optometrists for patients discharged from the Royal Eye Infirmary (Plymouth) with the following eye conditions: Ocular hypertension, Glaucoma or a glaucoma suspect.

Intra-ocular pressure (IOP) referral refinement service

Please note: The services listed below are by referral only, if you have any concerns please book an appointment with your local optometrist.

Across Devon there is an IOP referral refinement service.  This service is to refine eye pressures tests to ensure only appropriate patients are referred to hospital with certain eye conditions.


Minor Eye Conditions Service (MECS), Plymouth 

This service provides urgent eye assessments for patients complaining of recent/sudden onset of specific minor eye conditions.

The service provides care closer to home, avoiding a trip to the hospital for patients who do not require emergency eye care but need to be seen by an accredited Eye Care Practitioner.

The service is provided by a range of optician practices across the area (Plymouth City, parts of South Hams, West Devon and East Cornwall).  See patient leaflet below for more information.
